What is it about memory that just lures us into its realms and we don’t really want to go back to reality? Is it past experiences? Is it good times with friends and lovers who made our lives better? Is it perhaps passed greatness, better than our state right now at this very moment? Who knows…maybe all of the listed above, maybe we have no idea. One thing I’m sure of is that you have good memories and you are grateful for everything that happened. Just focus on them for a moment. If you could just share these feelings, the excitement, the love, the joy you felt…would you do it? I guess it is on you to decide. I chose to ask some friends about their own memories that make them smile and here’s what they told me:
What I would definitely call as one of my fondest memories would be the time I held a presentation for a creative writing event at my school. As a teen I had always been pretty reserved and would avoid any form of exposure at all costs (one thing that teenage angst does to you), so as you understand writing my own texts and presenting them out loud in front of a crowd was a big step. Right after, people I didn’t even know would come up to me and congratulate me on my presentation skills, which as you understand pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed me. Overall, that experience contributed to my coming out of my shell and discovering my own potential.
I’ll take you back to one of my favorite winter vacations with my cousin. We were just little kids back then and only cared about playing around. So, on that day we had visited a horse field full of big trees and a river running in the middle. Our parents let us ride a horse and afterwards we had some free time to explore around the grounds. It seemed like a fairy tale to be honest. At some point we would even hide under big piles of leaves and jump up and down…I miss those days a lot and thinking back to them just puts a smile on my face!
Early mid-summer days at the beach are always the best for me no matter what. I have tons of memories there…I could actually talk for hours but listen to this one. I met some friends and family at a beach near Naupactus and we were about five kids there. I think it was 2009. We swum all day till the sun came down. I remember at some point a couple of tiny puppies came around to play and it was just the cutest spectacle, I was so happy! Well, let’s say that I keep that feeling from back then, because I somehow managed to step on an urchin later… But I think you get my point! *Laughs*
Many people say that the past is past, and I agree. You can’t build a future when you are stuck in the old days. But you know, when it comes to moments like the ones above, you can’t help but go back to them occasionally, we always do that. Know one thing fellow reader, your best moments are yet to come and you’ll have plenty of stories to tell in the future, even better than the ones above or some of the ones that come to your mind right now. Isn’t that something?
