A shift of perspective

Let’s face some facts. 2020 has been a highly strange year -I’d say terrible but let’s not be extreme-. A global pandemic that is still tormenting us, natural phenomena that caused chaos, etc. From my point of view, I remember myself in December 2019 looking forward to the arrival of the new year. Well, it didn’t exactly turn out to be magnificent, but there were many things that came into my life that felt like true blessings and I’m just done with seeing only the negative parts and choosing the easy role of the victim of circumstances, instead of cherishing all the wonderful things, no matter how big or small. You’re probably wondering why I am telling you all this nonsense, but I just want to share with you some things I realised over the past few months, that have helped me change my perspective on various things.

Some people refer to it as the Law of Attraction or manifestation. Instead of using these terms and since I’m not an expert myself, I am going to talk to you about a shift of perspective.

You attract what you are, not what you want. I had this phrase in my mind for years without paying much attention to what it meant. We all want to be healthy, loved, wealthy, happy…you name it! You definitely can’t snap your fingers and have it all at once. We usually focus on what we don’t have and choose to concentrate such a great amount of energy feeling stressed about it, that is getting ridiculous! I’m not judging you, of course, I do it too, as well as everyone around me. We are kind of wired to seeing the bad and neglecting the good, it is the way our brain manages to warn us and keep us safe from danger.

What I want to tell you is that even though this is totally normal to have doubts and negativity within you, in order to see a positive change in your life, you have to alter some things inside yourself first, like your thought patterns. Every time you find yourself in a negative state of mind, you should pay more attention to what you are thinking, in order to shift that thought into a positive one. It might feel strange or silly at first, but it really does help you ‘reprogram’ your mind and change the way you see things. You can’t control everything that crosses your mind, but the most intense and negative thoughts. For example, some people don’t feel very comfortable or satisfied with their body and appearance, and what do they usually do? They complain about how terrible they look or how they want to lose or gain weight…’But it is just impossible!’. This is a negative state of mind. Instead, they should start talking and thinking more positively about themselves and never act as if their state is terminal and unchangeable. Which brings us to the next step…Taking action!

Work on you, for you. If you just hate something happening in your life right now, take action, don’t dwell on it! Work out even for 10 minutes a day if you’re troubled about your body shape. Save a few coins daily if you are constantly in a state of financial imbalance. If you are being too harsh on yourself and all you do is having a little negative self-talk in your brain, just take a small break to sit back and appreciate how far you’ve come and the many wonderful things you have achieved! Even if you feel overwhelmed and can’t figure out a way to change some things, start taking action from within. Make sure you remind yourself that it is going to turn out just fine and limit overthinking.

The last thing I would like to tell you is very simple and fun! Visualisation. It can’t be just me, that whenever I lay down and relax, thoughts start bombarding my mind. Scenarios and imaginary stories of all kinds. Sometimes these stories could actually come true and are associated with our daily lives. What I suggest is that you start imagining yourself in ideal circumstances. Working for the company you always wanted, buying the house of your dreams, living with your ideal partner, and many more. Start feeling like it is already yours. It will take just a little bit of concentration and imagination, but by doing this for a few minutes daily, you will realise that nothing is too big or too risky for you to have. The process of visualisation will also help you realise what matters to you the most and what kind of activities, people, and environments suit your needs and deserve your energy.

To sum up, it all depends on how you deal with your everyday life and most importantly, how you feel. This is a small life, and we won’t waste it on worry, doubt, and fear. Have the strength to chase your dreams and believe in yourself, because if you don’t, no one will! As I told you above, by minding your thoughts, taking small actions towards your goals, and visualising, you will realise that everything is possible along with the fact that we are truly blessed already, but we haven’t noticed! Stay true to yourself and everything else will slowly fall into place…
